Sexology
The roots of this area can be found at the end of the 19th century. In Czechoslovakia this medical branch arose in the interwar period, when the Sexological Institute was founded (as a part of University) and it exists till present time. Czech sexology has always been close to the psychological and psychiatric concepts.
The issues addressed by sexology are linked to both the reproductive function of sexuality (especially in the care of men with lower fertility), and to "pleasure", i.e. sex, which we often do without a pursuit of procreation. It deals with disorders of sexual instinct (e.g., significantly decreased or increased sexual interest), genital dysfunction (erectile dysfunction, premature, delayed or lack of ejaculation, dyspareunia-vaginal pain during intercourse, vaginism-constriction of pelvic mussels which prevent the intercourse etc.) as well as malfunctions in the way of execution of sexual desire or in the selection of the object as it is for people with parafilias.
Modern sexology takes into account the whole range of human sexual problems. It is focused on both the psychological and the physical parts, finding links between brain activity (brain is the most important sexual organ) and other organ systems of the human body. Therefore, good sexology department works closely with other professionals.
